JANESVILLE - The Monroe swimming team, in a tuneup before the Badger Conference Relays, finished sixth at the Janesville Parker Relays on Saturday.

Baraboo outdistanced Milton for the title 143-128. Badger Big Foot-Williams Bay finished third, followed by Janesville Craig. Janesville Parker edged the Cheesemakers for fifth, 95-82.

"Those are all top-notch swimming teams," Monroe coach Linda Moser said. "They are definitely contenders for their conferences. You have to look at the times they put in versus the times we put in, knowing they have the depth to swim their top swimmers together in the same races."

The Cheesemakers' 500 crescendo relay team of Katie Coplien, Leanna Schwartzlow, Randi Robertson and Kendell Niffenegger finished third with a time of 5 minutes, 28.58 seconds.

The Cheesemakers' 200 freestyle relay team of Sara Heitkamp, Britney Johnson, Jessica Moehn, Veronica Andraski took fourth with a time of 1:55.53.

Moser said Heitkamp had an outstanding meet.

"Sara is one of those swimmers on the bubble and just needs that extra push to get over the bubble," Moser said. "She certainly has a passion for it."

The quartet of Cassie Coffey, Johnson, Elizabeth Eiseman and Andraski finished fifth in the 300 backstroke relay with a time of 3:38.99.

In the 300 butterfly relay, the Cheesemakers also picked up a fifth-place finish. The quartet of Taylor Bryant, Sarah Tomasiewicz, Schwartzlow and Andraski swam a 3:35.03 to medal.

Moser said Bryant had a standout swim in the butterfly, cutting four seconds from her season-best time.

The Cheesemakers added sixth-place finishes in the 400 individual medley and 400 freestyle relays.
