MONROE — Monroe football head coach Toby Golembiewski was named the Green Bay Packers High School Coach of the Week on Wednesday, Sept. 27 for his fight against cancer.

Following Monroe’s state championship in November, Golembiewski was diagnosed with colon cancer, which spread to his liver and lymph nodes. He has gone through chemo treatments but still returned to the sideline this season to coach the Cheesemakers, who are 4-2 overall.

While Golembiewski fights cancer himself, he’s also had loved ones go through the same battle. To support those fighting and lost to cancer, Golembiewski and the football team — partnering with Student Senate — raised $5,500 for Justice for a Cure. The organization, founded by Joan Kamholz, revolves around “the law enforcement family doing their part to serve and protect in the fight against cancer.”

The Packers will recognize one high school coach a week during the 2023 football season. Winners receive a $2,000 donation to the football program and online recognition. Those wishing to nominate their coach should contact Ryan Fencl, Football Outreach Manager, at coachoftheweek@packers.com.
