Fury fall one goal short

MADISON — The Rock County Fury dropped a tight contest to the Stoughton Icebergs Dec. 14. 

Stoughton had taken a 1-0 lead early in the second period, but Orangeville’s Olivia Combs lit the lamp with an equalizer 6:29 into the third off an assist from Monroe’s Marlies Brandli. The Icebergs scored two goals in a 10-minute stretch just two minutes later to go up 3-1, stunning the Fury.

With 1:15 left in the game, Hannah Chady scored on a power play, assisted by Sarah Edler and Amery Stuckey.

Olivia Cronin had 26 goals in net for the Fury. Up next for Rock County is top-ranked Metro Lynx Dec. 16, then a nearly 2-week break will commence. 


Boys Hockey

Edgewood 12, Monroe 0

MADISON — The Cheesemakers struggled against one of the Badger Conference’s top teams, falling behind 5-0 in the first period, and 8-0 after two frames of play.

Edgewood’s JJ Wiebusch had four goals and two assists, while Cody Menzel had three assists and two goals. Nick McCann also scored twice. Parker Murn tallied five assists, and Aidan Lenz added three assists and a goal. Wiebusch has 15 goals and 11 assists in just seven games this season.

The Cheesemakers were outshot 47-21. Xander Obert took the loss in net for Monroe. The Cheesemakers fell to 1-9 overall this year (0-4 Badger West). Edgewood is 6-1 overall and 4-0 in the Badger West.
