Cheese, Cards suffer nonconference losses

CLINTON — In a preview to next year’s Rock Valley Conference matchup, Monroe fell to Clinton 48-29 on Tuesday, Dec. 27.

The Cougars had a 27-13 lead at halftime and outscored the Cheesemakers again in the second 21-16. Jayden Nortier had 12 first-half points, six of which came from the free-throw line.

Taylor Jacobson, returning after missing three games, scored seven points in the first half. She and Allison Wunschel had one 3-pointer each.

Monroe limited Nortier in the second half, which allowed Jenna Shinkus to score eight second-half points. The duo finished the night with a double-double each. Nortier scored 12 points with 10 rebounds, while Shinkus had 14 points with 14 rebounds.

Sydnee Conway scored all seven of her points in the second half, including a 3-pointer. Delaney Fortney scored four points, going 2-for-2 from the free-throw line. Combined with her seven first-half points, Jacobson’s three points in the second gave her a team-leading total of 10.

Brodhead traveled to Belleville, where they fell 68-37. Maddie DeSmet led the Wildcats with 17 points.
