MAZOMANIE - The Glarner Knights were able to avenge an early season loss to Wisconsin Heights in a 63-55 victory in overtime Thursday.

For Knights coach Travis Sysko, his team's win was a solid marking point for how far his team has come over the course of the season.

"Tonight was a great win for us," Sysko said. "(Wisconsin) Heights is a good team in our conference, and they were able to handle us pretty well on our home court last time we played them."

So it was all but necessary for the Knights to return the favor. After trailing by four points to the Vanguards, the Knights were able to climb back and tie the game at 51 late in the game.

Once the game went into overtime, New Glarus stepped up its defensive pressure in addition to getting to the free throw line.

"We played solid defense down the stretch," Sysko said. "And we were able to knock down our free throws which ended up being the difference for us tonight."

Gavin Binger, one of three Knights in double figures, led the team with 15 points. Martrell Dixon had 10 points while Austin Schlueter added 12 points, including a clutch 7-for-8 from the free throw line in overtime.

"They (Albany) came out tonight with more intensity than we did," Panthers coach James Pickett said. "They got up and down the court faster than we did. They out-hustled us, out-rebounded us, and just were giving a better all-around effort than we did tonight."

The Comets (13-6, 7-2) were able to compile a 39-17 lead heading into halftime, giving them a comfortable cushion throughout the remainder of the game.

Mineral Point 77, Darlington 40

MINERAL POINT - Coming off of a disappointing loss on Tuesday at the hands of Boscobel, the Darlington boys basketball team had the tough challenge in taking on the undefeated Pointers on their home court.

Unfortunately for the Redbirds, offensive and defensive woes plagued their team in a 77-40 loss.

Darlington's hopes of keeping the game close were squandered early in the first quarter, as Mineral Point raced out to 10-point lead after the first period. By halftime the Pointers were up 54-19.

Cole McDonald and Cody Hardyman scored in double figures for the Redbirds, with 11 and 10 points respectively.

River Ridge 50, Pecatonica 49

RIVER RIDGE - Holding an eight-point advantage at halftime of their Thursday matchup against River Ridge, the Pecatonica boys basketball team saw their lead slowly fade in the second half, where they eventually lost 50-49.

The Vikings started off the game strong, but a last quarter surge by the host Timberwolves was enough to give them the advantage once the final horn sounded.

A.J. Hendrickson scored 17 points for Pecatonica (9-10, 4-5), who make the trip to Argyle on Tuesday, Feb. 18.
