WAUKESHA - The Green County YMCA Gems Gymnastics team competed in its first meet of the 2013-14 season at the Waukesha YMCA on Nov. 2-3. Thirty-seven gymnasts from the Gems team competed in levels 1, 2, 3, 4 and 7 in their designated age groups at the meet. The Gems brought home a total of 106 medals earned across all levels.
The Level 1 team took top team honors with a score of 113.5, ahead of Waukesha in second place and Sheboygan in third place. Medaling on the uneven bars for Level 1 were Kate Kundert, Hailey Thompson, Leah Zierl, Reagun Buhlman, Morgan Kleeman, Tess Nafzger and Danica Altmann. On the balance beam, Buhlman, Kundert, Thompson, Nafzger, Altmann, Maddie Davis, Zierl and Kleeman placed. For the floor routine, Buhlman, Kundert, Zierl, Gwen Jamison, Thompson and Katelyn Kleeman placed. On the vault, Morgan Schneeberger, Thompson, Buhlmann, Kundert, Vaughn Barker, Jamison, Morgan Kleeman, Zierl and Davis earned medals. In their respective age categories, Buhlman, Kundert and Thompson placed first all-around, Morgan Kleeman and Zierl second all-around, Nafzger third all-around and Altmann fourth place all-around.
In Level 2, taking home honors on the uneven bars were Kaegann Paulson, Sophie McGuire, Jessy Ruckman, Breanna Giasson and Emily Hazzard. For the balance beam, Paulson, McGuire, Giasson, Hazzard, Kyla Ziolkowski and Lizzie Snider medaled. On the floor routine, Paulson, McGuire, Giasson, Hazzard, Ziolkowski and Snider again medaled. On vault, Paulson, Ruckman, Giasson, Hazzard, Ziolkowski and Snider placed. Receiving all-around awards in their age groups were Ziolkowski in first place, McGuire second place, Giasson and Paulson third place and Hazzard fourth place. The Level 2 team took second place as a team.
The Level 3 team earned second place out of seven teams with a score of 144.7, only three-tenths of a point behind Waukesha in the top spot. For Level 3 on the bars, Heather Burkhalter, Kaylea Paulson, Bri Seagreaves, Karis Paulson, Maddie Deegan, Ripplee Dunlavey and Maddison Markham placed. In the beam event, Burkhalter, Dunlavey, Kaylea Paulson, Markham, Sierra McGuire, Deegan, Jill Marty and Karis Paulson earned medals. Placing in the floor exercise were, Burkhalter, Deegan, Dunlavey, Markham and Kaylea Paulson. For vault, Burkhalter and Karis Paulson medaled.
Earning all-around honors were Burkhalter (first place), Dunlavey and Kaylea Paulson (second), Deegan, Markham and Karis Paulson (third-place).
Three gymnasts competed at Level 4 for Green County. Maggie Setterstrom took home a third on the beam, first on floor, fourth on vault and second all-around. Faith Koester was ninth on beam, fourth on floor and sixth all-around. Lizzy Brennan earned a second-place medal on the beam and third on the floor exercise.
At Level 7, Tre Voegeli was third on the beam, second on the floor and third all-around and Josie Eberle earned first place on the vault.
The Green County Gems will travel to Fond du Lac the weekend of Dec. 14-15 for their next competition. The Green County YMCA will host a meet in Monroe the weekend of Jan. 18-19.
