MADISON - Errors haunted the Monroe High School baseball team in a 14-6 loss to Madison Edgewood on Thursday.

Monroe (6-14, 3-8 Badger South) committed eight errors.

The Cheesemakers scored two runs in both the first and second innings to take a 4-0 lead.

Edgewood battled back with three runs in the bottom of the second. The Crusaders took the lead for good with a seven-run third. The Cheesemakers committed three errors in the third and also had three walks and three passed balls.

"It was a combination of a bunch of errors and some hits," Monroe coach Dustin Huffman said. "It was probably one of the worst innings we have had this year. It was mistakes on top of mistakes. Unfortunately, it came after we were up 4-0."

Monroe senior Carter Sawdey went 3-for-4, scored three runs and had two doubles. Senior Cole Murray went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI.

Senior Hogan Edwards pitched three innings and gave up 10 runs, but just three earned runs, on 10 hits. He struck out five and walked four. Freshman Jared Dillon tossed 2 1⁄3 innings in relief and gave up four runs - one earned run - on two hits. He struck out three and walked one.
