Cards win on Hail Mary

EVANSVILLE - Brodhead-Juda junior quarterback Brennan Bescup threw a 44-yard Hail Mary touchdown pass to Griffin Day to give the Cardinals a last-second 12-7 win over rival Evansville-Albany.

"It's an exciting way to win the game for sure," Brodhead-Juda coach B.J. Bockhop said. "We knew this would be a really tough game because of the rivalry. You know the records get thrown out in a game like this and it will be a battle, which is what happened."

Bescup completed 8 of 13 passes for 110 yards and one touchdown. Day rushed for 72 yards on 14 carries. Day also had two receptions for 52 yards and one touchdown.

Evansville-Albany running back Nathan Redders and quarterback Ben Haegele were both limited to 23 rushing yards. The Cardinals limited the Blue Devils to 59 total rushing yards.



Cuba City 27,

Black Hawk 6

SOUTH WAYNE - Cuba City avenged a loss to defending state champion Black Hawk, rolling to a 27-6 win over the Warriors.

Black Hawk senior Heath Butler was 14 of 21 passing for 138 yards with two interceptions. The Warriors were plagued by five turnovers - two interceptions and three fumbles and couldn't rally to beat the Cubans like they did last year 31-28.

The Warriors couldn't find much running room against the Cubans, rushing for a total of 50 yards. Black Hawk senior Shawn Woodruff rushed for 28 yards on six carries and scored one touchdown. Black Hawk's Chase Stietz had five receptions for 72 yards.



Pec-Argyle 40, ZEPHYRS 12

BLANCHARDVILLE - Pecatonica-Argyle senior quarterback Drew Schliem passed for 194 yards and two touchdowns to propel the Vikings to a 40-12 win over Benton Scales Mound.

Schliem was 10 of 15 passing to lead the Vikings to the win. With the win, the Vikings improve to 2-0. Pecatonica-Argyle's Cam Treuthardt had three receptions for 90 yards and one touchdown.

The Vikings held the Zephyrs to 188 total yards and forced one turnover. Treuthardt had a 39-yard TD catch from Schliem and added a 2-yard TD run. Pecatonica-Argyle's Colin Argue added a 33-yard TD run.
