State championship hopes are still alive for Brodhead-Juda and Darlington in the WIAA football playoffs.
Both Brodhead-Juda (9-2) and Darlington (10-1) will play Level 3 playoff games Saturday.
Brodhead-Juda will host No. 1 seed Lodi (10-1) in a WIAA Division 4 quarterfinal at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Meanwhile, the Redbirds will play at No. 1 seed and unbeaten Lancaster in a WIAA Division 5 quarterfinal at 3 p.m. Saturday.
Brodhead-Juda advanced to the quarterfinals by beating Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau, 29-3.
Brodhead-Juda senior Ethan Douglas rushed for 144 yards on 30 carries to lead the Cardinals.
Darlington defeated Pardeeville 34-14 to advance to the quarterfinals.
Darlington sophomore Seth Rowe rushed for 110 yards on 16 carries. Senior running back Dan Hammer ran for 104 yards on 16 carries to help the Redbirds.
"It will be a challenge," Darlington coach Scott Zywicki said. "Our kids think they can win and they should. We have a heck of a team as well as Lancaster."
Both Darlington and Brodhead-Juda will have a week to prepare for their biggest games this year.
Brodhead-Juda coach Jim Matthys sees the week of preperation as a blessing.
"It's huge being able to now give the kids a day or two off. Not that we're hurt, but to get rid of some of those bumps and bruises that we got from playing three games in 10 days will be huge for us. And we can get a game plan together," Matthys said.
