EDGERTON - Brodhead's girls basketball team used a pressure defense in the second half to knock off Edgerton 52-33 on Thursday.
Kristen Ruchti scored 13 points, Dana Lewis and Megan Heller each added nine, and Alyssa Harding finished with eight to help Brodhead (8-3, 7-1 Rock Valley South) keep pace with conference leader Orfordville Parkview (12-2, 9-1).
Edgerton (5-8, 4-5 RVC North) jumped to a 19-18 lead after the first quarter. Brodhead got 3-pointers from Riley Olson, Harding and Heller in the quarter.
Over the next three quarters, Brodhead held Edgerton to just 14 points, while scoring 34.
All of Heller's points came on 3-pointers. Brodhead hit six 3s and finished 10-for-13 from the free throw line. They played without starting point guard Cassie Wymer, who injured her ankle in Tuesday's loss to Monroe.
Eight Cardinals scored in the game.
Brodhead goes back to work tonight in the first game of a girls-boys doubleheader against Palmyra-Eagle (3-9, 2-7) at 6 p.m.
