Avalanche teams see success

MONROE - The Monroe Youth Hockey Mite A Avalanche team tied the Madison Patriots 9-9 on Sunday, Nov. 28.

Goals scored by the Avalanche include five by Cade Janecke, three by Tessa Janecke, and one by Alyssa Knauf. Earning one assist each were Haley Knauf, Heath Bear, Brock Kuberski, Tessa Janecke, Payton Stauffacher, and Cade Janecke.

Goalie Luke Kuberski recorded 20 saves.

The Mite A record currently stands at 3-3-2 as they get ready to play at Janesville on Saturday, Dec. 4. On Sunday, Dec. 5, they travel to Waunakee.

Avalanche Mite Teams Skate with Bucky

MADISON - On Friday, Nov. 26, 14 members of the Monroe Youth Hockey Mite A and B teams skated at the Kohl Center for Bucky's Mighty Mites at both the Wisconsin Badgers women's and men's hockey games.

To start the day, the Mite team arrived at the Kohl Center to play during the 2 p.m. women's game against Minnesota-Duluth. The Avalanche team was divided into two teams - red and white - and took the ice after the second period.

They played for three minutes The white team won by a score of 1-0. The Wisconsin women won their game 3-2 in overtime.

At 7 p.m. the Avalanche Mites arrived at the Kohl Center to play during the men's game against Michigan. After the second period, the Mites took the ice to play a mini game. The almost sell out crowd cheered on the Mites.

The red team scored a goal, answered with a goal by the white team. With seconds left the white team scored a game-winning goal to make it 2-1, sending the crowd to its feet.

The UW men's game ended in a 4-4 tie.

Avalanche Squirts

MONROE - On Saturday, the Monroe Avalanche Squirt team (kids ages 9 and 10) lost to the Stoughton team by a score of 6-0.

Goalie Payton Stauffacher kept Monroe in the game by registering 14 saves.

On Sunday, the Squirts had two games scheduled with the first being played in Monroe against McFarland.

Monroe fell behind early but a pretty goal by Jared Cline tied the game at one. Minutes later Travis Edmunds scored the game-winner. Monroe went on to win 4-1, with additional goals coming from Joe Wyss and Cade Janecke. Assists were recorded by Edmunds, Emma Ness and Tessa Janecke.

Stauffacher stopped 27 shots to record the victory.

Later that afternoon the team traveled to Waunakee and won their second game of the day by the score of 7-2. Jamaar Manor had a great game for the Avalanche recording a hat trick and an assist.

Other players scoring goals included: Daniel Ward, Wyss, and Cade Janecke. Edmunds also recorded an assist. With the victory the team improved to 5-2-1 on the season.

Next week the team travels to Oregon on Saturday and hosts Sauk Prairie at 9 a.m. Sunday.
