Karen R. McGinley
Age 76, of Monroe, died on Friday, September 23, 2022 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison surrounded by her close family. Karen was born on August 13, 1946 in Rockford, IL, the daughter of Floyd and Elizabeth (Hartwig) Buttke, Sr. She graduated from Orangeville High School in 1964 and married Ronald McGinley on February 17, 1968. He preceded her in death on June 21, 2020. Karen lived in Juda, Orangeville, and Monroe before moving to Adams-Friendship where she lived for 20 years. She returned to Monroe in 2019 and has resided at Pleasant View Nursing Home for the last 18 months.
One of Karen’s favorite activities was bowling and had many cherished memories of playing in leagues and various tournaments with her three daughters. She also enjoyed participating in dart and pool leagues, cooking, gardening, canning, fishing, and camping. She loved to crochet blankets, crossword puzzles, sewing, drawing, playing Yahtzee and other board games. Most of all she loved spending time with her family and most recently had the excitement of meeting her great grandson, Leo Ray. She was a member of the American Legion and USBC (US Bowling Conference).
Karen is survived by her three daughters, Lori (Robert) Hawkins, Cheryl (Bryan) Updike, Tracy (Greg) Hawkinson, all of Monroe; grandchildren, Brandon, Cody, Kelsey Vavra, Dylan (Jordan) Hawkins, Kayla (Jacob) Johnson, Sydney Updike, Alaina Hawkinson; great grandson, Leo Ray Hawkins; and a great granddaughter on the way. She is further survived by her sister, Sharon Mulligan of Broomfield, CO; and brother, Floyd (Patty) Buttke, Jr. of Atwater, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter, Jayda Hawkins; grandson, Bryce McGinley; and brothers, Nathan and Charles Buttke.
A memorial service for Karen will be held on Friday, September 30, 2022, at 11:00 a.m., at the NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, Monroe, with Pastor Mary Gafner officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials are suggested in Karen’s name to the Friends of Pleasant View Foundation to help fund a new glass atrium for the residents. Condolences may be shared at www.newcomerfuneralhome.net
