Franz Raoul Gosset, MD, age 87, of Monroe passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at SSM Health Monroe Hospital. He was born the son of Raoul and Hortense (Garcet) Gosset in Belgium. Franz completed his education in Belgium.  He was a graduate of the Université Catholique de Louvain where he earned his Doctor of Medicine. He completed his residency in the specialty of Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Franz moved to the United States in 1959. He was united in marriage to Margaret King on July 11, 1962 at St. Barnabas Catholic Church in Mazomanie. Franz was a Pathologist at the hospital in Monroe from 1970 until his retirement 4 years ago. He was a member of St. Clare of Assisi Parish at St. Victor’s Catholic Church.

Franz had many interests and hobbies. He took flying lessons in Monroe with his son Jimmy and completed his Solo Flight. He owned a collection of Harley-Davidson motorcycles and would frequently take rides throughout Southern Wisconsin, either solo or with his sons Jimmy and John, which he loved. He taught himself 7 languages in addition to his native Belgian Walloon French and English. Others are too numerous to list.

Franz is survived by his sons, James “Jimmy” and Janet Gosset of Milwaukee and John and Marcie Gosset of Madison; grandchildren, Gage, Shane, Elise, Gisele, Sophia and Danielle. He is also survived by his niece, Anne Gosset and grand-niece, Thifany Geiger both in Belgium.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margaret; and a brother, Lucien Gosset in Belgium.

He was extremely blessed to have Monda and Wayne Hess in his life who did so much for both Margaret and Franz in their care throughout the years literally up until their deaths. Gratitude cannot be put in words. We consider them part of the Gosset Family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Noon on Friday, January 26, 2024, at St. Clare of Assisi Parish at St. Victor’s Catholic Church with Father Dave Carrano as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Barnabas Catholic Cemetery in Mazomanie.
