ALBANY - The Albany Area Chamber of Commerce will present Albany's very own recording artist, Snuffy Smith and the Dime a Dozen Band, at the Street Dance held at 8 p.m. Friday, May 23. The event will be held rain or shine.

Smith covers country, rock, blues, gospel, soul and his original music. His music is described as combining the classic country music sound of artists like Hank Williams and George Jones with the influences of "Outlaw" country, southern rock, and blues by singers such as Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings.

Smith began his career at an early age by singing in church. Smith's first album, "Arms Around the World," received praise for its two hits, the title track and the upbeat "Hard Road," both of which saw success on the CCMA Christian Country Chart. His follow-up release "Believe" also found success. The title cut, "If You Could Only Believe," debuted at No. 39 on the CCMA Chart in January 2000. By April of that year, Smith was holding a No. 1 chart position and was named finalist for the CCMA Christian Country Male Vocalist of the Year award.

The song "Keepin' Faith," which Smith released in 2011, peaked at No. 25 on both the Inspirational Country Radio charts and the HMG Nashville Country Radio chart. A second release, "Private Daniel's Prayers" off his self-titled album, reached No. 87 on the Music Row Charts. Smith has also been the winner of the Madison Area Music Awards for Best Country Artist, was a guest performer at the MAC's 2011 MAC Radio Live, and performed at the Monroe Arts Center in 2012. Smith's latest single, "Just Whose Hands Its In" will be released to radio in July.

Smith, his wife, Yvette, and family, moved to Albany in 2006.

Admission to the Street Dance is $5 per person. Special guests will be Carolynn and Tom Black.
