Snowmobile club offers police a treat

MONROE - The Stateline Trailblazers Snowmobile Club announced Thursday a police officer appreciation week to show support in the wake of recent attacks on police officers across the country.

From July 24-31, all law enforcement officers in Green County can receive free ice cream at the Dairy Queen in Monroe, paid for by the Trailblazers Club, by showing their badges.

Club president Dan Van Houten said the week was an opportunity to show the club's appreciation for law enforcement after two high-profile attacks on officers in recent weeks.

Five officers were killed in Dallas on July 7, and three more were killed in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on July 17. Both shootings came after the recent shooting deaths of black men by law enforcement escalated tensions between police and black communities nationwide.

"There's been so much going on lately," Van Houten said. "We want to show our support for our officers any way we can."

Van Houten said officers will be able to purchase any item on Dairy Queen's menu and won't be limited by price.

The Trailblazers are a group of snowmobilers dedicated to maintaining a system of trails for snowmobiling in the state line area. During the summer, Van Houten said, the group is largely inactive, aside from holding similar benefits for Future Farmers of America.
