MONROE — Less than 24 hours after he posted a $500 cash bond to get out, Dennis E. Beutel was back in the Green County Jail on Wednesday, Jan. 9.

The 48-year-old Monroe man has been in and out of jail since October for repeatedly violating a court-ordered condition of bond that he not drink alcohol, according to police reports and court records.

His latest arrest came after he caused a two-vehicle crash Wednesday morning at the Argyle Interchange just outside Monroe city limits and then fled police, according to the Green County Sheriff’s Office.

The accident happened at about 10:15 a.m. Wednesday by the Wisconsin 11 off-ramp to Wis. 69/81, Town of Monroe. Beutel reportedly failed to stop as he drove from the off-ramp into the intersection and collided with a vehicle that was stopped and waiting to turn left onto Wis. 69.

When deputies arrived on scene, Beutel reportedly drove off and led the officers into Monroe on a pursuit of about one mile. He was apprehended with the assistance of the Monroe Police Department.

Neither Beutel nor the other driver, Joseph M. Van Matre, 30, Monroe, reported injuries from the crash. Beutel’s vehicle sustained damage and was towed. Van Matre’s vehicle was also damaged but was driven from the scene.

Beutel was arrested and jailed on a third-offense misdemeanor charge of operating while intoxicated, as well as felony charges of knowingly fleeing an officer and bail jumping. He was also cited for hit-and-run on an attended vehicle, following too closely and failure to wear a seatbelt.

At the time of his arrest Wednesday, Beutel had been out of jail less than 24 hours from an arrest the previous week for felony bail jumping. A signature bond Beutel signed in September in a Lafayette County felony theft case has stipulations that include no drinking. That case is still pending, as are his multiple felony bail jumping cases in Green County.
