MFD announces promotions, appointments

MONROE - The Monroe Fire Department announced promotions and appointments that are effective Wednesday, Jan. 1.

Captain Charles Montgomery was promoted to division chief in the apparatus division. Montgomery has served the department since August 1990. The apparatus division chief position was left open by the recent retirement of Assistant Chief Ronald Briggs after 36 1/2 years of service.

Lt. Nick Bartels was promoted to captain in the apparatus division. Bartels has served the Monroe Fire Department since 2004 and previously served with the Browntown Fire Department.

Firefighters Rick Wyss and Chad Pfund were promoted to lieutenant in the apparatus division. Wyss and Pfund have both served with the department since 1999.

Lt. Eric Welty, the department safety officer, was promoted to captain. Welty has been with the department since 1990 and previously served as the department EMS Division officer.

Firefighter Jared VanDellen was promoted to lieutenant in the First Response/EMS division. VanDellen has served the Monroe community since 2007 and previously served the Fulton, Ill. Fire Department.

The department also announced that three probationary firefighters have completed their recruit training and have been accepted as full members effective Nov. 26.

Firefighters Darin Lincicum and Tanya Lincicum recently moved from South Wayne to Monroe and previously served as firefighter/first responders with South Wayne Fire Department. Both are state certified firefighters and emergency medical responders.

Firefighter Sean Moroz recently graduated from Madison College's fire training program and is certified as a Firefighter 2 and is currently attending Blackhawk Technical College's EMT Basic program.
