MONROE - The final day of school before school is out for the summer is Friday, June 6.

The Monroe school board voted unanimously to approve an inclement weather make-up day schedule Monday. The final school day will be a full day.

Monroe School District Superintendent Cory Hirsbrunner said the district must have a full day of school on the final day instead of a half-day to meet the hours requirement students are expected to be in school for the year. School districts across the state are required to schedule classes 180 days. Days that school is closed due to inclement weather and days that parent-teacher conferences are hosted are not to exceed five days.

"We are fortunate that there were 182 days in this year's calendar," Hirsbrunner said. "This allowed us more flexibility in the make-up time. Students will still have a full week off before coming back for summer school."

Staff in the district will be expected to return to school June 9-11 to fulfill their contract obligation.
