TOWN OF WILLOW SPRINGS — A rural Darlington man is dead following a one-vehicle crash on Thursday. This is the third motor vehicle fatality of 2026 on Lafayette County roadways.
According to the Lafayette County Sheriff's Office, a 911 call came in at approximately 4:51 p.m. for a single vehicle rollover crash in the 14000 block of STH 23, Town of Willow Springs. Lafayette County Deputies, Lafayette County EMS, and Darlington Fire Department were all dispatched to the scene.
The investigation of the crash revealed that a 2024 Dodge Ram truck operated by Lawrence D. Wedig, 77, of rural Darlington, was traveling southbound on Wis. 23 when the vehicle left the roadway and entered the west side ditch. The vehicle struck an embankment and rolled over ejecting Wedig from the vehicle while the truck came to rest on its wheels.
Wedig received life threatening injuries and was transported to Lafayette County Hospital by EMS. He was later transferred to UW Hospital in Madison by UW Med Flight where he later died.
The Lafayette County Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by Lafayette County EMS, Darlington Fire Department and Al's Towing and Recovery. The crash remains under investigation.
