Former mayor of Monroe, Milo Friedrichs, passed away on May 22, 2012, in Palmetto, Florida, his home for the past 18 years. Milo was born on April 19, 1929, in Dolan, South Dakota to Fred and Alice (Frehner) Friedrichs. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1947 to 1951 on the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt. When he returned home he married Frances Ladwig on August 18, 1951, they were married for 50 years, she preceded him in death, and he later married Merna Gingher on May 29, 2005.
Milo was an active member of the Monroe community, as business owner for Buri Electric with Carl Burgi and later took on new partners, Ken Rufer and Don Friske, then later sold the business to them and joined Swiss Colony as their maintenance engineer and worked there until his retirement in 1994. Over the years he belonged to Monroe Jaycees, Kiwanis, VFW, American Legion, Monroe Country Club, Loyal Order of the Moose, and Monroe Presbyterian Church.
Surviving Milo is his son, Ken; wife, Merna; brothers, Milton (Shirley), Delmar (Bernice), Dalen (Leona); grandchildren, Megan (Curtis) Sardeson, Rachel Winden, and Michael Friedrichs; sisters-in-law, Nancy Friedrichs, Donna (Joe) Ladwig; brothers-in-law, Forrest (Alice) Ladwig, and Monty Chesebro; great-grandchildren, Chase and Zoe Sardeson; former daughter-in-law, Mary Friedrichs; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Alice; wife, Fran; daughter, Barbara; brothers, Walter and Vernon; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Chesebro and Phyllis Burgi; brothers-in-law, Clifford Ladwig and Carl Burgi.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at 10 a.m. at Greenwood Cemetery in Monroe, with Fr. Michael E. Klarer officiating, and full military rites accorded. Following graveside rites, a celebration of life will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the American Legion in Monroe. The Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home is assisting the family.
