NEW GLARUS - Harriet R. Marty, age 86, of New Glarus passed away on Monday, September 15, 2008 at Wood's Crossing in Brodhead. She was born on October 12, 1921 in the Town of Exeter to Jacob and Bertha (Zimmerman) Marty. Harriet graduated from New Glarus High School and attended Milton College. On November 16, 1941 she was united in marriage to Garland Marty in New Glarus. Harriet worked for the Pet Milk Company in New Glarus for over 20 years and the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction retiring in 1984. She was a member of the Swiss United Church of Christ in New Glarus, a volunteer at the New Glarus Home, and a 50 plus year member of the New Glarus Legion Auxiliary Post.
Harriet is survived by her son, Jeff (Cheryl) Marty of Madison, WI; a grandson, Jay Marty of Canal Fulton, OH; two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Jake; and a brother, Morris Marty of New Glarus.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Garland in 2001, and a sister Lorna Marty in 2008.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 19, 2008 at the Swiss United Church of Christ, 18 5th Ave., New Glarus, WI, with Pastor Patty Marty officiating with burial in the Swiss Church Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 18, 2008 at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home, 29 6th Ave., New Glarus, WI.
A memorial fund has been established.
