Donald B. Rossing, age 85, of Argyle, WI, passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2013, at his home. He was born March 13, 1928 in Argyle the son of Hjalmer and Bertha (Olson) Rossing. Donald graduated from Argyle High School in 1946. Following his graduation from high school Don was drafted into the United States Army during the Korean War in 1951 and was honorably discharged in 1952. He returned to Argyle to run the family business, L.A. Rossing Company, until his retirement in 1999. Don was united in marriage to Ruth Wirtz on April 3, 1955 at Blanchardville United Methodist Church.
Don is survived by his wife: Ruth; three children: Steven Rossing of New Glarus, WI, Heidi (Kevin) Baumann of West Bend, WI, and Thomas (Brenda) Rossing of rural Argyle; 10 grandchildren: Adam and Jennifer (fiancé Phil Vetterli) Rossing, Lance (Michelle) Rossing, Karstyn Rossing, Andy (Michelle) Baumann, Kristin (Will) Natividad, Benjamin (Katrina) Baumann, Ryan (Megan) Rossing, Gina (Michael) Oftedahl, and Elise Rossing; 5 great-grandchildren: Ace and Cruz Rossing, Isaac and Reese Rossing, and Wesley Oftedahl; and two sisters: Betty Forell of Iowa City, IA, and Martha Robert of Boston, MA. He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson: Isaac Rossing in infancy; one brother: Robert Rossing; and two sisters: Helene Lovell and Hjordis Waxler.
Don was proud to be a lifelong resident of Argyle. He was a member of Cornerstone Lutheran Church in Argyle and Argyle American Legion Post #251. Don was also a member and past president of Woodlawn Cemetery Association for many years. He loved spending time with his family, fishing at his cottage in Hayward, WI, and grooming his yard. Music was an important part of Don's life ever since his childhood. His family and friends will always remember him for his musical talents, but mostly for playing the harmonica at the drop of a hat.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 25, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at Cornerstone Lutheran Church, 1540 Old Highway 81 in rural Argyle with Rev. Ron Brubakken and Rev. Richard Ewing co-officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in rural Argyle where military rites will be accorded by Argyle American Legion Post #251. A visitation will be held Sunday, August 25, 2013, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. The Erickson Funeral Home in Argyle is serving the family.
