Bernadine C. Ringhand, age 95 of Monroe, died Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Monroe Health Services following a brief illness. Bernadine was born on October 8, 1922 in Jefferson Township, the daughter of Archie J. and Mabel M. (Lentz) Maske. She graduated from Oakley Rural School. Bernadine married Walter Ringhand on January 24, 1943 at the E.U.B. Church in Monroe. She recently stated her secret to being married 75 years was "giving in a lot." She helped her husband farm in Mt. Pleasant Township and was also employed in the cafeteria/dietary department of St. Clare Hospital for 30 years until retiring in 1985.
She was a faithful member of the Monroe United Methodist Church where she was the service team coordinator for several years. Bernadine was a lifetime member of the Green County Historical Society and a former director of the historical museum, a volunteer at the Monroe Chamber of Commerce and a coordinator of the downtown chamber information booth for 10 years, and helped out in the Green County Welcome Center. She was a hard-working farm wife, homemaker, and mother. She will be remembered as a people person, a thoughtful hostess who always had baked goods and snacks for company, and a fun loving, sweet, wonderful lady. She loved all her family and always enjoyed the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed playing cards, reading, visiting with friends, and traveling to Florida, Nevada, South Dakota, and area casinos.
Bernadine is lovingly survived by her faithful husband, Walter Ringhand of Monroe; a daughter, Rita Vickers of Brodhead; a son, Randall (Gloria) Ringhand of Monroe; grandchildren, Michael (Charity) Vickers, Dan Vickers, and Chad (Brenda) Ringhand; a granddaughter-in-law, Jen Ringhand; great-grandchildren, Bailee, Ashton, Natalie, Jacob, Logan, Brett, Abigail, Kailyn, and Mallory; a great great-grandson, Oakland; and a cousin, Roger (Sandra) Miller. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son-in-law, Hubert Vickers on April 11, 2014; and a grandson, Ryan Ringhand on June 17, 2016.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, March 9, 2018, at 11:30 a.m., at the Monroe United Methodist Church with Pastor Randy Booth officiating.
