DARLINGTON — An Iowa man fled from police on Tuesday, May 3, causing the schools and hospital to go on lockdown after an altercation took place at the Darlington Mini Mart.

Judd Allen Frazier, 52, Lansing, Iowa, is being charged with a Class G felony second-degree reckless endangerment, and misdemeanors in resisting an officer, disorderly conduct, operating while revoked, ignition interlock device tampering and bail jumping. All carry a modifier as a repeater.

Around 7:07 a.m. on Tuesday morning, Darlington Police Department and officers from the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to the Darlington Mini Mart for a dispute in progress.

Frazier got into an argument with victim. While she was located outside the car on the passenger side, leaning on the open door, Frazier became upset and hit the accelerator and then slammed on the brakes, accusing the car to lurch forward and the car to hit the victim. With the victim’s 4-year-old child in the backseat, Frazier did it again and then drove off. The victim ran into the Mini Mart asking them to call 911. Frazier then came back with the child, placed the child and their belongings in the Mini Mart and took off on foot towards Virtue Motors.

The search for Frazier continued for about three hours. He was found in his truck backed into a field entrance on Rock Road west of County O and surrendered.

Frazier stated that he did not intend on hurting the victim and his foot slipped off the brake causing the car to jump. He stated that the victim constantly accuses him of hurting her and since he was also on probation, he tried to run from law enforcement. He cut through backyards, made his way to County F and into fields west of the city limits. He jumped over a creek and got onto the ATV trail into Iowa County to where the victim’s family member lives and Frazier’s truck was located. The victim’s family member tipped off police to Frazier’s location.

Frazier’s next court appearance is May 16.
