MONROE - Eight Concerts on the Square will be held in Monroe this summer on six Thursdays beginning June 7 with two special Friday concerts on July 6 and Aug. 17.
The free concerts, which are sponsored by Main Street Monroe, Inc. and underwritten by Colony Brands, Inc., will be held on the west side of the Square. Those attending should bring their own lawn chairs.
The concerts run from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. and will be held rain or shine. The alternative indoor site will be the Monroe Middle School. In the event of inclement weather, a sign will be posted on the west side of the Square.
Box lunches will be available at Café Claudeen's and Pancho & Lefty's, who will also have an outdoor taco table. Box lunches are available by calling to place an order in advance.
Concerts include: June 7, The Velveetatones; June 21, The Penny MaeDixon Band; July 6, The Jimmy's; July 12, Natty Nation; July 26, Midlife Crisis; Aug. 9, Banned Wagon; Aug. 17, Sweet Life; and Aug. 23, The Super Heroes. Concert schedule magnets, funded by Grede of Browntown, will be distributed during the June 7 concert and at various retail stores and locations throughout the city.
