MONROE - A Monroe man charged with sexually assaulting a teen girl in May turned himself in Friday and made his initial appearance in Green County Circuit Court by video. The court set bond in the case later in the day.

Turner J. Beernink, 19, is charged with four felonies: second-degree sexual assault of a child, enticing a child into sexual contact and two counts of exposing genitalia to a child.

Police records indicate the court set a $15,000 signature bond that orders him to have no contact with the victim, her Monroe residence, or Beernink's friend's Monroe residence, where the alleged assault occurred.

He cannot use the Internet or any form of electronic communication except for calls, text messages and emails to friends and family.

He must submit a DNA sample to the state database, which Assistant District Attorney Jeffrey Kohl said is mandatory for anyone arrested for or charged with a felony.

Lastly, Beernink is ordered to have no contact with children besides his siblings. Beernink told Judge Thomas Vale he's currently living in Milton with a friend and the friend's family, which includes two girls, ages 10 and 14.

Vale suggested Beernink talk to his parents or other contacts in the area about his living situation, because he won't be allowed to live at the Milton residence if he signs the bond.

Monroe Police Chief Fred Kelley said Beernink turned himself in at 8:15 a.m. Friday and is being held at the Green County jail.

If convicted on all counts, Beernink could face a 43-year prison sentence, $220,000 in fines, or both.

He has a preliminary hearing July 8.
