NEW GLARUS - The superintendent of the Black Hawk School District was arrested for drunk driving Thursday night.

William C. Chambers, 47, New Glarus, was arrested for first-offense operating while intoxicated, operating with a prohibited alcohol concentration above 0.15 percent and having open intoxicants in his vehicle at 8:37 p.m. after police responded to a report of a car crash in the W5200 block of Edelweiss Road in New Glarus. He was traveling eastbound when his vehicle left the roadway and entered a cornfield.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle sustained moderate damage and was towed from the scene. Chamber was released pending court.

Jason Figi, clerk of the Black Hawk school board, said Friday evening that the school board is aware of Chambers' arrest and would be discussing the situation at a future meeting.
