MONROE - An Albany woman was sentenced Wednesday to one year in jail on a charge of fifth-offense driving while intoxicated.
Brandi Kai Schumacher, 47, pleaded no contest to a fifth-offense felony count of driving while intoxicated. A charge of felony bail jumping and a fifth-offense charge of driving with a prohibited blood alcohol content were dismissed.
Schumacher was charged after an incident on Nov. 25, 2015, when a driver reported a seemingly impaired driver on County T, Town of Spring Grove. The witness said the impaired driver seemed intoxicated and was nude from the waist down.
Schumacher later admitted to having been drinking in Brodhead and having taken "a pill," although she did not identify what kind of pill it was. She was arrested after she failed to pass field sobriety tests.
Her attorney, Guy Taylor, recommended that Green County Circuit Judge Thomas Vale impose and stay a 20-month prison sentence and instead impose a two-year term of probation with one year of conditional jail time with work release privileges.
Vale agreed with Taylor's recommendation.
"I really regret what I've done," Schumacher said. "I recognize I need to be punished for it."
Schumacher said that she hopes to complete her probation term in Florida once she has completed her prison term.
In addition to her sentence, Schumacher's driver's license was revoked for 30 months. When her license is restored, she will be forced to use ignition interlock devices in her vehicle for another 30 months.
