We had a short week last week on the Monroe 8th Street project as crews paid tribute to our troops by observing Memorial Day. Despite the short week, progress was made with the contractor's schedule showing a lot of work coming up in the next couple of weeks. Since our last update, crews have continued installing the storm sewer at the 5th Avenue intersection and around the 3rd Avenue intersection. This storm installation will continue across 3rd Avenue early this week which will require the street to be shut down while they make the crossing. The storm work will continue between 3rd Avenue and 5th Avenue and get the underground work closer to completion.
Crews also spent a day last week removing the concrete pavement and old road base around the northwest corner of 8th Street and Wisconsin 69. Those removals will allow the contractor to pour new concrete curb, sidewalk and pavement which will then be used as part of the Stage 2 traffic pattern coming up in three to four weeks.
You also may have noticed the start of some restoration work behind the newly-poured curb between 6th Avenue West and 4th Avenue West. The contractor placed some of the excavated dirt behind the curb to clean up the piles that were sitting around. This newly-placed dirt is still low as the contractor will be bringing in more topsoil before the seeding and final restoration.
Concrete sidewalk and driveways between 6th Avenue West and 4th Avenue West along with new curb and pavement around the Wis. 69 intersection are both scheduled for next week. New traffic signal bases will also be poured this week at the 4th Avenue West intersection and the Wis. 69 intersection.
