MONROE - The Green County Area Entrepreneur and Inventor Meeting will continue its 2011 year with a series titled "Resources for Business." On Monday, May 2, the fourth of the series, "Ed-Ventures in Business" will feature Jeff Messer, Blackhawk Technical College, and some hands-on activities to encourage participants to bring a different focus to the challenges in your business.

The meeting is from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the First National Bank & Trust's Lower Level Conference Room, 1625 10th St., downtown Monroe. The meeting is free and open to the public. Refreshments are available.

Messer, director of the BTC Ed-Venture program, will lead a short discussion about what it means to be an entrepreneur or inventor and how it is similar to solving a problem, and requires looking beyond what is currently available and not being limited to what is currently accepted as the best or newest. He will then lead one or two portable activities to solve and challenge attendees to think through how they sought to solve these problems and relate the exercises to their current idea or project.

Messer is the Experiential Learning Coordinator and Facilitator at BTC. He's the first individual to hold this position in the Wisconsin Technical College System.

Messer has served as presenter at the ACCT International Conference in Boston, MA, and the Association for Experiential Education Hartland Region Conference. He's also brought the Ed-Venture Program to the Southern Wis.-Northern Ill. Fire/Rescue Association, Inc. Monroe FireSchool since 2007 where the participants raved about the activities.

"We have an active Inventors and Entrepreneurs Club that attracts creative, passionate people dedicated to their ideas and businesses. We like to think we're innovative, but in the space of 20 minutes, Jeff Messer from Ed-Venture had us seeing ourselves in new ways. It took just one unique, hands-on exercise to help us see 'outside the box.' It definitely roused interest in learning more ways to keep thinking creatively. Beyond the presentation itself, Jeff is a solid speaker with a good sense of humor and knack for keeping folks focused," said John Gishnock III, President, Evansville Area Inventors & Entrepreneurs Club.

In addition to the speaker and topic, those attending will have time to introduce themselves and share a little about themselves and their invention, business or business idea. Participants should bring business cards and network with other inventors and entrepreneurs.

The Green County Area Entrepreneurs and Inventors is an informational forum where entrepreneurs, inventors, new businesses and people thinking about starting their own businesses can come together to encourage each other and share challenges and successes. The group meets monthly, usually on the first Monday of the month. More information about the group is available on the GCDC website www.GreenCountyEDC.com or by contacting GCDC at gcdc@tds.net or (608) 328-9452.
