MADISON - Dance Wisconsin will perform "La Fille Mal Gardée" (The Poorly Guarded Daughter), Saturday, April 12 and Sunday, April 13 at Mitby Theater, 3550 Anderson St., Madison.
The ballet is an adaptation from Jean Dauberval's original 1789 ballet. Retrum's staging includes some adaptations made from Sir Frederick Ashton's choreography that premiered in 1960. Recorded music composed by Ferdinand Hérold and arranged and adapted by John Lanchbery will accompany dancers. The two act comedic ballet will feature Natalya Weise, a Waunakee High School senior, and Justin Genna, Milwaukee Ballet Artist and Dance Wisconsin alumnus, as the lead roles of Lise and Colas. Dance Wisconsin Company member Collin Khamphouy, a Monona Grove High School junior, will perform the role of Alain.
Local dancers from the Monticello/New Glarus area include Emily Ginocchio, daughter of David and Martha, and Jessica Schmitt, daughter of Peter and Julie.
The ballet is laced with humor, dancing chickens, grouchy guardians and half-wit suitors.
