MONROE - The Monroe City Band's 2013 Variety Show, titled "At The Copa," will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 23 at Turner Hall.

The music will be reminiscent of the New York City Latin nightclubs of the 1950s. Local entertainer Hugo will be the host and featured vocalist with the city band's 16-member stage band. A professional dance team from Platteville, "Ballroom Stylings by Katherine," will also perform.

Tickets are available from members of the Monroe City Band, or at the door. All seats are $7, and refreshments will be available for purchase.

Hugo is a professional musician, entertainer and DJ and has performed across the country with a variety of pop music groups. Recently, he performed in Monroe's "Showcase Of Talent" and will be performing several numbers associated with the Latin club scene of the post Big Band-era during the first portion of the show.

"Ballroom Stylings By Katherine" features dance instructor and competitive dancer Katherine Zaimes and her husband and dancing partner, John. She maintains a studio in Platteville, where she teaches all phases and age groups. They will be performing two routines accompanied by the band, a beguine and a swing dance.

After a short intermission, the second set will feature more traditional Big Band swing tunes, progressing to more contemporary dance music by Stevie Wonder and Sly and the Family Stone.

The Variety Show is an out-growth of the shows put on as a joint effort between the City Band and the Monroe Lion's Club.

The Monroe City Band is in its 64th season, with the first outdoor concert at Twining Park to be held June 10.
