5 named MHF scholarship winners

DARLINGTON - The Memorial Healthcare Foundation (MHF) Grants and Career Development Committee recently named five recipients for healthcare scholarships in 2011.

They include: Brianna Burke, Darlington, Mitchell Erickson, Argyle, Holly Lange, Darlington, and Abby Mowry, Benton, and Morgan Torstenson, Darlington.

Each received $1,000 awards at the July 19 quarterly MHF Board of Directors meeting.

Burke, a 2009 graduate of Darlington High School, is second-year student studying microbiology at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. She is the daughter of Brian and Kim Burke, Darlington, and plans on pursuing a career as a physician.

Erickson, a 2008 graduate of Darlington High School, is currently studying pre-physical therapy at Madison' Edgewood College. He is the son of Mike and Linda Erickson, and is currently working at United Cerebral Palsy, which serves children with cerebral palsy and autism.

Lange, a 2002 graduate of Darlington High School and 2006 graduate of Edgewood College, is currently studying Pharmacy at the University of Wisconsin School Of Pharmacy. She is the daughter of Al and Marcia Lange, Darlington, and is currently employed at Walmart Pharmacy.

Mowry, a 2010 graduate of Benton High School, is currently pursuing a nursing degree at Clarke University, Dubuque. She is the daughter of Bill and Mary Mowry, Benton, and has worked as a CNA throughout high school and college.

Torstenson, a 2007 graduate of Darlington High School, is currently studying nursing at Southwest Wisconsin Technical College. She is the daughter of Jim and Mary Jo Torstenson, Darlington, and hopes to work in a labor and delivery unit someday.
