MONROE - The Monroe Swiss Singers will be hosting its 48th annual Swissfest at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Grand Hall of Turner Hall of Monroe.
The Monroe Swiss Singers mixed choir will take the stage, along with the Jodlerklub New Glarus and the Männerchor New Glarus, in presenting an afternoon of authentic Swiss folk music. Accordionists Bobbie Edler and John Waelti will also perform, along with several new guest artists, including middle-school-aged soloist and yodeler, Cammi Ganshert; solo alphornist John Knechtenhofer of western Missouri; and Jeff Palenik of Blanchardville, who will play zither.
Other acts include middle-schooler Alexa Thomann singing a yodel duet with her grandmother, Trudi Thomann, a member of the Monroe Swiss Singers; and accordion duets by Heinz Mattmann and Martha Bernet, both members of the Monroe Swiss Singers. Both Trudi Thomann and Martha Bernet are charter members of the Monroe Swiss Singers.
The afternoon will also include a tribute to the late John Wegmueller, an area alphornist, Schwyzerörgeli player and member of all three Swiss choral groups in Green County, who passed on earlier this year.
Tickets are $10 at the door or $8 in advance. Tickets are available at Orange Kitten Yarns, Monroe. Admission includes the program and the dance afterward, played by the Keith Zweifel Band. The Ratskeller Restaurant will also be open following the program.
