Our state senator Howard Marklein sends our local newspaper many interesting stories telling all that he said he proudly does. But I never see a story about why he sends hundreds of millions of dollars of your tax money to private schools and decreases the amount that is sent to our public schools.
Whose idea was it to cut state taxes for our public schools in 2012 to 2021, which dropped our state from 2nd place in the nation to 25th in support of our schools. It happened because the state was ger-rymandered by Republicans and they took great advantage of their far greater numbers to provide $3.9 billion less in state aid to school districts and many of these tax cuts disproportionately benefited the wealthy.
The severe drop in support for schools stands all by itself as terrible and sickening proof Wisconsin children were thought less of and the lawmakers love of money was thought more of.
I understand the state recently provided certain kinds of tax cuts for schools. About time!! In situations like this I fight for TRUTH and for our CHILDREN who cannot fight for themselves. And it is really time assess our values. A child’s education will determine their view of money, view of the business world’s honesty, how to get along with one another, knowledge of the body and its functions, the importance of friends, cooking recipes, geography of the world and especially important allies and enemies, learn about past presidents and current president, what government support you can count on when you reach age 65, read interesting books and discuss in school, and importance of physical education and tell how democracy works in the United States of America. Name some of our allies and our enemies; study Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address, hear different speeches like FDR’s speech, Washington’s Final Address, Thomas Jefferson’s Declaration of Freedom and Liberty; explain our American flag; learn the Pledge of Allegiance; learn about the Holocaust and Hitler; who is the current president like; study D-Day and 2nd World War role of women when men went to war and left their jobs; discuss if women should be equal to men and vice versa; when did women get the vote?; what was their struggle like before they got the vote?; learn arithmetic adding subtraction, division and multiplications; learn percentages; chemistry; biology; learn about Black men and women heroes.
