ORFORDVILLE — With a 72-9 win over Johnson Creek in its home triangular, Parkview-Albany won the Trailways South Conference title on Thursday, Jan. 26.
The Vikings went 6-0 in the southern division with dual wins over Deerfield (60-24), Dodgeland (68-6), Horicon (46-28), Hustisford (66-15), Johnson Creek (72-9) and Palmyra-Eagle (70-0). The conference tournament, which will also include the northern division, will be held on Saturday, Feb. 4 in Orfordville.
In their dual with Johnson Creek, the Vikings gave up just nine points. Domonic Raabe (160) defeated Jayden Anderson by a 6-0 decision, while Logan Zerbe (285) received a forfeit. Conversely, Parkview-Albany recorded five pins with seven forfeits.
Sean Morales (170), Wyatt Egan (195), Wesley Egan (195) and Danny Finley (120) pinned their opponents in the first period, while Ian Suer (132) went to the third period with Luke Hartz.
Forfeits made the difference in Parkview-Albany’s dual with Brodhead-Juda, as the Cardinals gave the Vikings 36 points with open weight classes.
Karson Miller (170) opened the dual with a pin of Morales, but a forfeit for Sam Schwengels (182), pin from Wyatt Egan and 6-0 decision in favor of Wesley Egan gave Parkview-Albany the edge. The next five matches were forfeited, four in favor of the Vikings and just one in favor of the Cardinals.
Suer then pinned Jameson Wallin. Brodhead-Juda scored in back-to-back matches, as Joe Lohmar (138) defeated Evan Suer 7-1, and Marcus McIntyre (145) pinned Nicholas Zamora. After a forfeit, Charlie Weiss (160) ended the match with a 14-6 major decision over Anderson. The damage had already been done, though, as the Vikings walked away victorious.
DEERFIELD SCRAMBLE
DEERFIELD — Parkview-Albany took six wrestlers to Deerfield on Saturday, Jan. 28, where the Vikings finished 17th as a team with 238 points.
Wyatt Egan was the lone champion. In Pool A, he went 3-0 with two pins and a 9-2 decision. He received a bye in the bracket before pinning Israel Albiter with eight second left in the first period. Slater Valley (106) finished third, while Evan Suer took fourth.
Brodhead-Juda also participated in the scramble, finishing 12th with 287 points. The Cardinals did not have an individual champion, but CJ Streuly (195) and McIntyre both took second.
In the bracket, Streuly received a bye before pinning Hayden Ballweg. He went 2-1 in Pool A, pinning both opponents. Streuly’s loss came to Richard Waldburger in the second period.
Like Streuly, McIntyre received a bye in his bracket. He then pinned Isaac Schoenherr in just over a minute. In Pool A, McIntyre recorded a pin and 12-4 major decision. His lone loss was a 14-4 major decision to champion Cole Sarbacker.
