MONROE - The Monroe Avalanche U18 varsity hockey team dropped two games over the weekend with losses to the Kenosha Komets and the Rockford Icemen in the Northern Illinois Hockey League. The Avalanche are currently tied for third in league standings.
On Saturday, the Avalance traveled to Kenosha (currently second in the NIHL standings) and lost a hard fought game 5-3. Goals for Monroe were by Drew Geissbuhler, Nigel Tourdot and Ron Draves. Assists were credited to Gotti Brandli, Taylor Riese and Mitch Riese. Sean Winters had eight saves in goal for Monroe.
On Sunday, the Avalanche were in Rockford to play the the undefeated and league leading Icemen. Monroe suffered an 8-1 defeat.
The Avalanches lone goal was scored unassisted and shorthanded by Brandon Mortimer. Winters made 32 saves in goal.
The next U18 games will be Friday, 7 p.m. at SLICE against the nationally ranked Rockford Icemen and Saturday at 1 p.m. against Bloomington.
