Larry George Hoover, a man known for his vibrant spirit and friendly demeanor, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2023, at Meriter Hospital in Madison, WI.  Born on August 3, 1944, the son of George and Ethel (Gissing) Hoover.  Larry was a graduate of Monroe High School. He served in the United States Air Force, where he was stationed in Italy and worked as an RF Transmission Tech. Then later attended college in Wausau, where he pursued and received an Associate Degree for Disc Jockey and Radio Broadcasting.  Larry was united in marriage to Dixie Sharer in 1968, together they had one daughter, Tammie, they later divorced in 1972.

His love for people led him to work as a bartender and in sales for several years, roles he thoroughly enjoyed.  He later worked at Sand Valley Golf Resort in Nekoosa, WI as a Ranger; he liked to refer to this as his dream job after retirement.  Larry was a very active man who loved sports, especially the Brewers. He enjoyed golfing, playing horseshoes, bags, and bowling. When he was younger, he enjoyed coaching softball.  He was also a music lover and loved to sing whenever he could.  Larry cherished his time living with his granddaughter, Stephanie in Puerto Rico.

Larry was a character in the truest sense of the word, known for his infectious spirit that could light up a room. His humor and friendliness will be dearly missed by all who knew him. His life was a testament to his love for people, his family, and his community. Larry's legacy will continue to live on in the hearts and minds of his loved ones and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Larry was a devoted family man. He is survived by his daughter, Tammie (Jim Bandt) Smiley; grandchildren, Stephanie (Brandon) Frontz and Christopher (Sierra Radcliffe) Smiley; great-granddaughter, Marlie; granddog, Cooper; brothers, Jerry (Rosemary) Hoover and Terry (Rose) Hoover; sister, Mary (Randy Boeck) Hoover-Morton; former spouse, Georgia (Dennis Wolf) Ward and family; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, and numerous dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Dixie Hoover; nephew, Matthew Hoover; and brother-in-law, Charles Morton. 

Larry will be remembered as a man who lived his life to the fullest, with a smile on his face and a kind word for everyone he met. His vibrant spirit, friendly demeanor, and love for life will be missed, but his memory will forever be cherished by his family and friends.

 A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at 1:00 PM at SHRINER HAGER GOHLKE FUNERAL HOME with Pastor Mary Gafner officiating.  Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.

A Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 11:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home.  Condolences may be sent to the family at: shriner111.com.
