Woman dies from injuries in head-on crash

SPRING GROVE TOWNSHIP - A Brodhead woman who died of her injuries from a head-on crash on Wisconsin 11 is the first traffic fatality of 2013 in Green County.

Donna M. Wenger, 61, died after she was flown by helicopter from the scene of the crash at about 6:30 p.m. Friday, April 5. The Green County Coroner's Office notified the sheriff's department the next day at 9 a.m. that she had died, according to a news release from Sheriff Jeff Skatrud.

Deputies who are investigating the crash believe Wenger fell asleep behind the wheel while eastbound on Wis. 11 about two-thirds of a mile east of Wis. 81/County GG. She crossed the westbound lane into the shoulder, then corrected back toward the centerline.

She collided head-on with a westbound vehicle driven by Daniel B. Bradford, 43, Janesville, causing injuries to both Bradford and his passenger Erika E. Schultz, 44, Janesville. They were transported by Green County EMS for treatment, while Wenger was Med-Flighted.

Both vehicles were severely damaged. Schultz and both drivers were wearing their seatbelts.

The Brodhead Fire Department, Brodhead Area EMS and Janesville EMS also responded to the scene.

The accident remains under investigation by the Green County Coroner's Office and Sheriff's Department.
