MONROE - Green and Lafayette counties are under a winter storm warning today.
The National Weather Service issued the warning Sunday, predicting southern Wisconsin will see a wintry mix of precipitation and blustery winds. Its forecast calls for accumulating sleet mixed with snow arriving by late morning. Freezing rain is possible during the afternoon and evening.
Up to 2 inches of sleet may accumulate, with icing up to one-quarter inch also possible.
Strong east winds up to 45 mph are also expected. The combination of icing and high winds may cause downed tree limbs and possible power outtages.
The winter storm warning remains in effect until 7 a.m. Tuesday.
