Villages round out ballots for spring election

MONROE - Caucuses in three Green County villages were finished by Jan. 28, rounding out the local ballot of candidates for the April 1 elections.

The Village of Albany has three seats open on their board but only one candidate for the ballot. Rodney Sutherland, an incumbent, was re-nominated Jan. 13.

Laurie Keepers, Albany village clerk, said the board is going to have to depend on voters to make write-in votes.

Browntown and Monticello, in contrast, have a broad array of candidates - more than twice what they will need.

"It's really nice to have so many people interested in being on the board," said Carol Davis, Browntown village clerk.

Gene Davidson, David Plath, Donna Wyss and Jon Adams were nominated to fill two vacant trustee seats in Browntown. Current Trustees Cheri Hodgson and James Dorsey resigned in January because they were planning to move out of the village boundaries.

Browntown Village Board President John Schmitt also resigned in January, but his official replacement will be determined at the November election, Davis said. Schmitt's resignation timing was too late for the village to get the open seat on the April ballot. The seat will be filled by appointment until November, Davis added.

Village of Monticello has six nominees for three seats on the board. Doreen Sies, Rene Nicholson and Randy Halvorsen are incumbents re-nominated to fill their seats. Larry Strauss, Julie Garrison and Robert Harvey will also be on the ballot.

The spring elections will be held April 1.
