Leona J. Rufenacht, age 83, of Friendship, formerly Monroe, died on Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at Meriter Hospital in Madison. She was born on July 7, 1927, the daughter of Archie and Hazel (Keller) Smull. Leona married Randall Russell Hanson, they were married for 27 years, after Russell's death Leona later married Robert Rufenacht, they have been married for 32 years. She worked for Spurgeon's, Hanson Heating and Sheet Metal, Turner Hall and for Leisure Lanes. She was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary and former member of the Women of the Moose Lodge #599.
Leona is survived by her husband Robert "Bob" Rufenacht; sons, Roger Hanson, Keith (Fiancée Donna Merchant) Hanson, Mark (Denise) Hanson; grandchildren, Scott (Krystle) Hanson, Brandon Hanson, Brock Hanson; great grandchildren, Mikayla and Miley Hanson; step-children, Gary (Rhonda) Rufenacht, Tom (Sharon) Rufenacht, Dave (Lynne) Rufenacht, Rick (Myra) Rufenacht, Ann Marie (Bill) Schager; 11 step-grandchildren; sister, Cora Stine; also several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents; husband, Russell; brothers, Veryl Smull, Mike Smull; sisters, Ellamae Finn and Betty Wolfe.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at 1 p.m. at the Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home, with Pastor T. Christian Nelson officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Monroe. A visitation will be held on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
