Celebrating Our Past: Green County Historical Society

This photo was found in A Glimpse Back in Time, a book of 166 photographs taken by Will E. Trukenbrod. These photos give you a glimpse of what life was like in Monroe about a hundred years ago. This photo was taken from a window on the north side of Monroe High School and shows two women walking down the sidewalk toward what is now 13th Street. Part of the monument works that was located on the corner of 16th Avenue and 13th Street for many years can be seen. Notice the horse pulling the wagon with a tombstone on it. Shown in the background on the right is a good portion of the Turner Hall that burned in 1936. A Glimpse Back in Time and a list of where each photograph in the book was taken is available at Sequels on the east side of the square. This same list is available by e-mail. To request this list or to ask questions, please contact Matt at 325-6503 or mfigi48@tds.net. (Photo supplied)
