MONROE — SSM Health has a long-standing commitment to preserving the earth and its resources and nurturing healthy communities as part of its mission.

Bringing these efforts to the local level for Earth Day, SSM Health Monroe Hospital staff coordinated with the City of Monroe to enhance a local park by planting trees Monday morning, April 22. Both linden and red maple trees were planted. Several local SSM Health Monroe Hospital leaders were on site to participate in the planting at Northeast Park.

“Part of our patients’ health is directly connected to their surroundings,” said Jane Curran-Meuli, President. “Continuing to invest in natural resources is beneficial for both the environment and the people we serve. I’m glad we were able to add some additional trees to an already beautiful park.”

SSM Health also hosted an electronic recycling event Monday morning on its Monroe campus for team members. Items such as TVs, computer equipment, small electronics, batteries, and more were accepted. Over 50 cars stopped at the event to drop items off, filling five pallets, three 4-foot-by-3-foot boxes, and two large garbage bins.

“What a great turnout,” said Linda O’Leary, SSM Health Chaplain and Spiritual Care Supervisor for Monroe. “Our team members took advantage of this wonderful opportunity in honor of Earth Day, and I couldn’t be more pleased.”
