MONROE - The Green County Farm Technology Days Executive Committee will offer grants to area non-profit and public organizations, with preference given to those based in Green County. This grant program is provided through the remaining proceeds from the 2007 show hosted by Green County last fall. The grants will be made available on an annual basis for up to three years, and will be selected by members of the Green County Farm Technology Days Executive Committee.

Mark Mayer, executive secretary for the show, indicated the committee set a policy three years prior to the show stating that all left over proceeds would be distributed to groups throughout Green County. They have already paid over $93,000 back to area groups and organizations that assisted with the show and after closing the books they still have a significant amount to distribute.

The grants will provide funding for the development of new programs or to enhance existing projects related to creating community and consumer awareness of the importance and impact of agriculture, including the development of agriculture educational and leadership experiences for youth and adults in Green County.

"Grant applications will be accepted for any projects dealing with agriculture, education and leadership development that will benefit youth or adults in Green County. Preference will be given to applications that combine education and/or leadership development with agriculture.

Applications for the 2008 grants are due by August 1. Grant recipients will receive their funds on Sept. 1. The application requires a narrative explaining the proposed project consisting of no more than two pages, along with a proposed budget. For more information or to receive a grant application form, contact Mark Mayer, UW Extension Agriculture Agent at (608) 328-9440. Guidelines and forms may be downloaded from the Green County UW-Extension Web site at green.uwex.edu.
