Executive Director, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Green County

Big Brothers Big Sisters is a United Way funded program. We rely on United Way funding to recruit, carefully match, monitor and support volunteers, children and the parents who ask us to support their kids. We rely on caring people in our community to help children reach their potential.

Think about it. A child could use a friend like you. Big Brothers Big Sisters is supporting 30 caring adults who are each a friend to a child. New President Dave Tschudy has been a Big Brother for six years and is proud of his Little Brother, Sean. Sean has matured into a very confident young adult with a good attitude toward school and music and a good sense of the future.

Big Brothers Big Sisters is supporting more than 100 high school students willing to spend an hour a week listening to and having fun with an elementary student. Parkside elementary teacher Sukenan says, "I'm counting on you to help my students with math and spelling homework." Big Sister and Big Brothers Big Sisters scholarship winner Brook Lederman said, "Each week, I mainly help children with their homework. I can see that they want to do a good job for me and it is so moving." High school students play board games with elementary students. They eat snacks. They talk and listen. It's easier than you think to be a friend to a child.
