Butler named Horizon Freshman of the Year

GREEN BAY — Bailey Butler, former Black Hawk standout and Wisconsin Miss Basketball last season, picked up three Horizon League season honors in her freshman campaign at UW-Green Bay, it was announced Feb. 28.

Butler, a guard, was named the Horizon League Freshman of the Yeah, Sixth Player of the Year, and earned a leading spot on the All-Freshman team. She standout averaged 24.3 minutes per game off the bench for the Phoenix, accounting for 5.9 points per game and 3.3 rebounds per night. She hit 20 3-pointers and had a team-high 36 steals, and finished second on the team with 53 assists. In conference play, she averaged 6 points per game and 3.6 rebounds with 23 total steals and 37 assists. She scored a season high 14 points against Youngstown State on Dec. 4.

Butler had earned Freshman of the Week honors by the league four times this season, with the next closest player honored just twice.

UWGB finished the regular season 19-6 overall and 15-4 in the Horizon League, finishing third. The league tournament was set to begin March 1.
