Raiders, Cardinals net pins

WATERLOO - Trailing 18-6, the Sugar River Raiders used four pins and two forfeits to surge past the Waterloo Pirates, 52-24 in Capitol Conference wrestling Thursday.

Michael Nolden (215 pounds) gave the Raiders an early 6-0 lead with a pin in 40 seconds.

After Taylor Christen received a forfeit at 112 pounds and Sugar River forfeited at 119 pounds, the Raiders won the next eight weight classes, highlighted by pins from Mitchell Short at 125 pounds, Andrew Fink at 140 pounds, Dylan Riley at 145 pounds, and Tom Vetterli at 152 pounds.

The Raiders will wrestle at Pecatonica Tuesday, Jan. 19.

Brodhead-Juda 49, Beloit Turner 24

BELOIT - A fast start paved the way for the Brodhead-Juda Cardinals in their Rock Valley Conference wrestling meet Thursday.

The Cardinals won five of the first six weight classes in a 49-24 win over Beloit Turner.

Casey Flannery got it started for the Cardinals with a 7-5 decision over Jake Jensen at 160 pounds.

Beloit Turner took a short-lived 6-3 lead after a pin at 171 pounds, then the Cardinals took control.

Ben Conway won with a 7-3 decision over Chad Horkey at 189 pounds. That was followed by Cody Spooner's pin in 1:29 at 215 pounds, a pin by Dylan Severson in 37 seconds at 285 pounds, and Jaow Thongkok's win by forfeit at 103 pounds to give the Cardinals a 24-6 lead.

Brodhead also got pins from Mitchell Wiesenberg (125 pounds), Dillon Woolums (135 pounds) and Hunter Colden (145 pounds).

Brodhead's next dual meet is Saturday at Elkhorn.
