PeeWee A third at state

BALDWIN - The Avalanche PeeWee A hockey team placed third in the PeeWee 3A state tournament March 12-13.

The Avalanche defeating Somerset 8-2 in the first game. Scoring were Hayden Roth (four goals), Tessa Janecke (three goals) and Roman Bauer. Earning assists were Alvin Buholzer, Hayden Roth, Anna Malone, Alyssa Knauf (two) and Tessa Janecke. The Avalanche outshot Somerset 42-16.

In the next round, the Avalanche lost 3-1 to Reedsburg-Wisconsin Dells. On a pass from Tessa Janecke, Knauf put one in the back of the net. The Avalanche outshot RWD 40-15.

The Avalanche defeated Waupun 6-2 on Sunday for the third place state trophy. Waupun was first to get on the scoreboard at the end of the first period. Roth responded with two goals within 40 seconds of each other early in the second period on an assist by Blaze Janecke. The Avalanche came back strong in the third period and made great plays, quickly passing and scoring. Knauf lit the lamp with two goals on assists by Tessa Janecke, Buholzer and Roth. Roth and Tessa Janecke (assisted by Buholzer) each added a goal. The Avalanche outshot Waupun 50-20.

The Avalanche PeeWee A ended their season 23-11-1 and Region 3A champs in addition to third place in the state tournament.
