MONROE - The Cheesemakers softball team lost its third straight game Saturday, a mark that hasn't happened in recent memory.
Monroe starting pitcher Meghan Roberts was tagged with the 6-0 loss to Stoughton. She allowed 10 hits, while striking out nine.
Stoughton scored its first run in the third on a two-out passed ball. Monroe had a chance to tie the score in the home half of the inning.
Paisley Bennett, who finished a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, was on third base. Emily Rufenacht hit a grounder to the pitcher, who glanced at Bennett before pump-faking a throw to first. Bennett was dead in the water and was tagged out in a rundown.
Stoughton added three more runs in the fifth and two more for insurance in the seventh.
Monroe managed just four hits.
The loss drops Monroe (10-9, 5-3) into fourth place in the Badger South. With three conference games this week, every contest is a must-win for the Cheesemakers to have a chance at a conference title.
